A Barge Run Down
  The propeller Dunkirk reached this port yesterday, and her commander, Capt. Samuel Murdock, reported, the following disaster, which occurred at 2 o'clock on the morning of Thursday:
  The Dunkirk was about three miles off Lexington, on her way up the lake, when the steam barge Herald, loaded with tan bark, and crossing the lake from the vicinity of Goderich, ran across her bows.
  Capt. Murdock says the Herald showed no lights until close upon the Dunkirk, and then it was too late to avoid the collision. The Dunkirk struch the Herald sqaurely, and the latter was so badly injured that she at once filled and sunk to her desk, being held afloat then by her cargo. There were six men and a woman cook on the Herald, and all these except the mate were saved without difficulty. The mate was David Thurber, of Kincardine, Ont., and it was his watch on deck. It is supposed that he jumped or fell overboard at the time of the collision, as he was not see afterward. The steamer Eighth Ohio, which was coming out of Lexington, was signalled, and took the crew of the Herald to Port Huron.--/Bay City Chronicle/
