Grand Island, Dec. 9. (AP)--Lloyd William Harding, 29, confessed here today, officers said, that he killed Eldon Anderson, 29, after the two had enfafed in a drinking party at Julesburg, Colo., hotel, December 5. Sheriff C. J. Palmer said tonight Harding had waived extradition and was being held for Colorado authorities. Harding's story as related by the sheriff was of an accidental shooting. He and Anderson, both residents of North Platte, had been drinking together. Harding said Anderson had given him an automobile ride from North Platte to Julesburg, although the two were not acquainted. Scuffled Over Gun After drinks at the hotel, Anderson playfully brandished a revolver, Harding said, and a scuffled for its possession followed. Harding had the weapon and was using it as a club, he told officers, when it went off. He exhibited a butn on his hand where it had wounded him. Harding, a salesman for an electric sign company, wept as he made his confession. He was arrested here Monday night. Officers arrested another man they had been hunting and found Harding riding with him. Routine questioning of Harding made them suspicious. Harding, 29, went back to Julesburg, Colo., this afternoon, to face a charge of frist degree murder in the death of Eldon Anderson, 33, at a hotel there last Satureday. Sheriff C. E. Bothel and a deputy who came here from Julesburg to return Harding, said they believed robbery was the motive for the shooting. Harding was arrested here on suspicion by police who sought another fugitive. Julesburg, Colo., Jan. 9. (AP)--A plea of self defense won acquittal for Lloyd Harding of Sidney, Nebr., charged with the murder of Eldon Anderson, 24-year-old Nebraska salesman. Only 15 minutes were required to select the jury to try Harding, who admitted he strick Anderson several times with the butt of a revolver during a quarrel in a Julesburg hotel last December 1. The jury deliberated nine hours last night, then reported it considered the evidence against Harding indufficient to warrant conviction. Anderson died from a bullet wound. Harding said under cross-examination he knew the revolver was discharged during the scuffle but said he left the room under the impression Anderson had been felled by a blow from the butt of a gun. Eight were each fined $10 and costs by County Judge Curtis O. Lyda. The other three cases were set for trial April 24. Those tried were, James Nelson, Glenn Sayre, Jacob Becking, O. L. Jones and Albert Abel, all for failing to heed a stop sign; George Fegler, Dwane Patrick and William M. Hale, all for having but one license plate; and Lloyd Harding, Frank Gabeiel and Roy Wineberg, for having improper truck licenses.
