A Pleasant Rrunion. The descendants of Col. James Williams met on Williams' Hill at the home of Eugene and Elwyn Hopkins on Saturday, October 12. to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the settlement of the family in Lyndon. Col. James Williams, then a man 66 years old, with a family of six bovs and six girls, came from Scituate, R. I., Oct. 12, 1801, and settled upon the hill which has since borne his name, and built at first a log house a few rods west of the farm house of Eugene Clement. Several of his children raised large families which have scattered through Glover, Sheffield. Wheelock. St. Johnsbury, and various parts of New Hampshire and Massachusettsand other states. All those of the first three generations are dead and but few of the fourth are living, but the large numbers on the fifth and sixth give a comfortable assurance that the family will not soon become extinct. The company assembled, about 60 in number, with a few invited guests and a ter a social hour were seated at tables and invited to help themselves to a bountiful collation. After dinner the company visited the site of the old log house on which is still visible the remains of the chimney and fire place and while standing there Miss Bessie Hopkins, one ot the great-great-great-grandchildren of the original settler, rendered two selections in a pleasing manner. The occasion was one of great enjoyment to all and arrangements are in progress for another reunion next summer, when it is hoped many more of tne family will find it possible to be present and become acquainted with relatives hitherto unknown. ------- ... ________________________________________________________ name of newspaper: St. Johnsbury Caledonian location: 190 Federal Street St. Johnsbury, Vermont 05819 date of article: Wednesday, May 23, 1900 edition: volume 63, number 3279 page: page 5 column: 3 source: https://www.newspapers.com/image/365119887 source: https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn84023253/1900-05-23/ed-1/seq-5/ about: https://www.loc.gov/item/sn84023253/ LYNDON. ...
