He, like others, travelled the long journey by boat to Vermont in 1798. He then immigrated to Canada in the early 1800's and sttled in a place called New Ireland which is Maple Grove Today. With him he brought his wife, Drucilla Hicks, and six children of which five were born in the United States. The children were: 1) Johnson 2) Harley 3) Rozina 4) Sarah 5) Leonard-Royal 6) Heil 2nd generation -------------- Johnson Thurber, son of Isaac and Drucilla, was married to Fanny Lee and in a second marriage to Miss Thetford Miner, Johnson and Thetford came to Lower Ireland and farmed 200 acres of Crown Land on lot # 676-77-78. Their children were: 1a) Richard Lee 1b) Annie 1c) ....... 3rd generation -------------- Richard Lee Thurber (1822-1909) son of Johnson and Fanny, was born in New Ireland (Maple Grove), Que.. Richared Lee married Catherine Lowry (1829-1918) at the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Lower Ireland by Rev. G. Dore. Catherine and her family, originally from Benny Gald, Ireland, had already immigrated to Leeds, Que. Richard Lee farmed lot #676-77-78 which his father gave him. He is known to be an excellent horseman. Richard Lee and Catherine are both buried at the Methodist Church Cemetary in Lower Ireland, P.Q. Their children were: 1aa) Elisa 1ab) Martha 1ac) Mary 1ad) Samuel 1ae) William John 1af) Burt 4th generation -------------- William John (1859-1951) born in Lower Ireland, son of Richard Lee, married Harriet Jane Simons (1876-1971) on Feb. 24, 1897 at Maple Grove. William John got along well with everyone and was a good-living man. He particularly enjoyed singing in the church choir in the bass section for weddings, etc. He was a school trustee, and also worked for the municipality of Ireland North.
