Bartholomew Brown Bartholomew Brown, who died August 27th at the home of his son Grant, 97-1/2 Main street, was born in Scotland on October 31, 1820. When a boy four years old he went to New Ireland, P.Q., where he lived, with the exception of a few years spent in Lyndon and St. Johnsbury, the greater part of his life. He was twice married, his first wife being Martha Thurber, who died April 11, 1873, to whom thirteen children were born, six of whom are still living: Henry and Lawrence of Nebraska, Charles of Lisbon, N.H., Mrs. E. L. Hopkins of Boston, Mrs. William McNeil of Brockton, Mass., and Grant of this town. He was married for his second wife Julia Barwise, who died in 1896. Mr. Brown was a man of sterling worth and loved and respected by all who knew him. He lived on the farm in New Ireland, P.Q. for over fifty years, until about five years ago, when he came to this town to make his home with his son Grant, who with his wife has done everything possible to make his father's declining years comfortable and happy. Last April Mr. Brown had a shock, but recovered sufficiently to be about, until two weeks ago he had a second one from which he never rallied, but passed away at noon Saturday. The funeral services were held Sunday, August 28th, at the residence of his son Grant, Rev. A. P. Grint officiating. There were many beautiful floral offerings from kind neighbors and friends. Bartholomew Brown died Saturday at the home of his son, Grant Brown, 97-1/2 Main street, where he had lived for the past six years. Services were held at his son's residence Sunday with the Rev. Alfred C. Grint in charge. Monday the remains were taken to Maple Grove P. Q., Mr. Brown's former home, for interment. The remains were accompanied by his four children, Mr. and Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Elwin Hopkins of Forest Hills, Mass., and Charles Brown of Lisbon, N. H., Mrs. Kate McNeil of Boston, was here to attend the funeral. Mr. Brown was nearly 90 years of age and was a native of northern Ireland. He was twice married and was the father of nine children six of whom are living.
