The township was erected in the year 1802. Its formation is the Lower Silurian in a metamorphic condition. It is rich in iron and copper ores, and abounds in other useful mine- rals. Gold has been found in several places. Compentent authorites entertain a very high opinion of the metalliferous deposits in this part of the country. The village has a considerable business in flour and lumber. Distant from St. Syl- vestre 10 miles, from Inverness 12 miles, from Bécancour Bridge, a station of the Grand Trunk railway, 16 miles, fare $2. Mail daily. Population about 500. There are six stores and a tannery in the village which is the centre of a large amount of business. It is also the point at which nearly all the county mails are distribured. The town- ship is rich in minerals of various kinds and has excellent soil for farming pur- poses. There are a great number of grist and saw mills, and it is one of the most prosperous townships in the county.
